More and more Ducatisti are paying attention to the first 4-valve machine the Ducati 851/888 series. Quickly overshadowed by the beauty and racing success of the 916 series, the inaugural desmoquattro has a beauty born from function rather than form.
The most sort after bikes are the limited series, Sport Production (SP) machines which were never sold in the USA. Perhaps that is why Doug Velez’s US market 888SPO has so many modifications. In effect it is a a hand built SP machine which boasts 130 rear wheel horsepower from it’s 955cc engine pushing just 390lbs (60 lighter than stock).
